SMS prides itself on the availability and use of current technologies. Our participation in eMints provides every 7th grader with a Chromebook in addition to approximately 100 computers in academic classrooms, two occasional labs, and a computer classroom in which students in grades 6-8 receive  instruction in keyboarding, basic operations, internet safety, Microsoft Office apps, Google apps, and access various other online resources that support their academic pursuits and goals for the future. Most classrooms at SMS are equipped with interactive technologies for students and teachers that support an engaging curriculum with 21st century tools.

In addition to classroom technology, SMS employs numerous other technologies and web services that provide free resources and effective communication with students, parents, and the community:

·        Information Now - a parent/student portal that allows users to access  current grades in all classes from the World Wide Web.

·        Google Mail and Drive -providing every student with an e-mail account and access to Google Apps for virtually "paperless" projects, homework, and assessments.

·   Class Dojo - a smart phone app that allows teacher and parents to communicate class information and individual behavior reports directly to parents on a daily basis.

·        Remind - a text messaging system that allows teachers to broadcast text reminders (projects, homework, due dates, etc.) to their classes.

·        Book Source - an online library that allows students to select and read books from their computer or tablet.

·        Alabama Career Planning System - a planning tool that helps students map and track their academic goals from Middle School through College in support of a career path.

At SMS, we're serious about preparing our students for high school, college, and careers in which technology will play an ever-increasing role.
